WHAT HAVE BEEN ACCOMPLISHED:

JMEC has been structural consultant to perform bridge condition evaluation and load rating for 3 Bailey Truss Bridges with reinforced concrete deck and concrete abutments in the Sierra National Forest. The 3 bridges were built between 1948 and 1952. They included Camp Whiskers Bridge with 62' span x 18' wide, Upper Chiquito Creek Bridge with 42' span x 18' wide, and Soquel Ditch Bridge with 42' span x 18' wide. Member sizes and span lengths were verified in the field and compared with information shown on the as-built drawings. Deteriorations and deviations were noted and included in load rating evaluations.

Based on the current state of the structure, load rating evaluations were performed in accordance with "AASHTO Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges". Load rating for operating and inventory loads were evaluated for HS20-44, Type 3, Type 3S2, and Type 3-3 vehicular loads.  In addition, the steel members and the welds connections were evaluated for fatigue considering over 2,000,000 cycles.

Load posting was recommended for bridges with operating R.F. for legal loads less than 0.9.
